Street Fair & Fireworks: The Glen Rock Street Fair was canceled for 2011. We need volunteers to organize this event in the future. Contact to Borough Office to volunteer. The Glen Rock Street Fair normally takes place the first Saturday of June each year. You can easily find a snack or lunch between the churches and volunteer companies selling everything from general fair food to baked goods. Rubber Ducky Races are held in Codorus Creek throughout the day along with musical entertainment. After the fair, just walk up Hanover Street to the Glen Rock Park for fireworks at dusk. The street fair takes place rain or shine.
Downtown / Stream Clean-up: Each spring in late April or early May, residents and community organizations gather in the center of town to help clean-up the downtown area and the South Branch Codorus Creek that goes through the center of town. A lot of help is needed for this Spring cleaning of our borough. Please help if you can. This was held on May 5th, 2012. Thanks to all that helped spruce up the Borough. Also, thanks for the goodies and snacks provided by Wetzel’s Market and Mignano Brothers.
Street Sweeping / Leaf Cleanup:
Spring Street Sweeping is to be determined.
Fall leaf clean-up will be TBD. If it is raining on pick-up day, leaf collection will begin the next dry day. Leaves should not be in bags. Rake leaves to the curb.
Every Christmas the Glen Rock Carolers sing carols throughout the borough from midnight until morning. This tradition began in 1848 and has continued uninterrupted since then. The carolers, a group of 50+ men, sing in three-part harmony and are accompanied by instruments, currently trumpets and trombones. Most of the carols sung are old English or old American and are not commonly heard anymore; only three carols have been added since 1900. The carolers themselves are recognized by their distinctive uniform consisting of gray high hats, greatcoats, gloves, and multi-color scarves. A concert given at 11 PM on Christmas Eve regularly attracts a crowd of around 1,000. The public is also welcome to follow the carolers as they trek through the borough.
Town Hall Meeting: Hosted by the Friends of the Library, this is your chance to interact with your borough Council in an informal setting. There is one meeting in the Spring and one in the Fall. The next meeting will be scheduled in the Spring at 7pm in the library.
